About Young Women in STEM

Did you know that while women constitute almost 50% of the labor market, there are only 28% of women in STEM fields as opposed to 72% of men (more data pictured below)?

Women remain underrepresented in STEM professions and there is a need to close the gender gap and inspire the next generation of female innovators and leaders. We are here to create the Young Women in STEM club to help address the gender gap in the STEM disciplines and STEM-related fields, as well as give our fellow PCH students an opportunity to explore their career interests in an accepting and encouraging community.

Why should you join Young Women in STEM

YWIS exposes you to a variety of STEM careers.

It looks awesome on your college application.

You get a unique opportunity to meet other PCH students with the same interests as you!

Listen and network with numerous guest speakers active in STEM careers.

Learn about influential women throughout history

Are you interested in a specific STEM career that doesn’t correspond with a club

(lawyer, engineer, marine biologist, etc.)? Welcome home!

Participation in the club gets you a cozy sweatshirt which you help design!

Engage in fun, educational activities and fundraisers around the school.

If you are looking for even more leadership, run to be on the clubs’ board of directors.

Travel with us to local Women in STEM conventions.

YWIS relies heavily on member input, and is great for getting your voice heard.

Do you have to be interested in a STEM career to join?

No! While YWIS is an organization heavily focused on STEM, it certainly does not exclude particular careers. Throughout your time in this club, we will explore your potential career interests, and will make sure that you feel represented.

This club is also great for those who don’t know what they want to do just yet!
