Welcome!

Overview

Young Women in STEM is a new club introduced to PCH inspiring the next generation of female innovators and leaders. Our mission is to address the gender gap in STEM-related fields, as well as give students the opportunity to explore potential career interests, while meeting an accepting, empowering, passionate community of strong women along the way

What to Expect from Young Women in STEM

Joining Young Women in STEM has numerous benefits, which are listed “Why should I join Young Women in STEM" on the About page. Joining our community, you can expect to participate in hands-on learning activities and team building. There will be regular guest speakers from numerous STEM career fields here to peak your interests, give a unique perspective to many job paths, and are here to get to know you! YWIS will also be attending Women in STEM supported organizations around the area which hold events exposing us to even more opportunities. Other great benefits are developing a network, and meeting like minded young women!

Meet the Founders

YWIS Founder Nina Buzzotta

Nina Buzzotta

Nina Buzzotta was a sophomore at Parkway Central High School when she thought up and started Young Women in STEM with Blair O’Connor. As an aspiring doctor and woman in a STEM career, Nina spends her time leading the medical club, starting blood drives with the Red Cross, and dissecting cadavers because...why not? In her free time, Nina loves playing the piano, learning new languages, and educating herself on science! Inspired by Wash U, her amazing women role models, and a passion for STEM, she created YWIS to close the gender gap in STEM careers and inspire the next generation of female innovators and leaders.

YWIS Founder Blair O'Conner

Blair O'Conner

Blair was also a sophomore at PCH and was so excited when Nina came to her with this idea! While she wasn’t quite sure of what she wanted to do career wise (or if it will be STEM related), she continues to be an avid feminist! In her free time she loves to workout and hangout with friends! She is on the volleyball and basketball team at Parkway Central. Blair is also happily involved in Dance Marathon and the Student Council!
